2021 Grüner Veltliner Santa Ynez Valley
Being from Austria and very familiar with Austria's most popular grape, we noticed a few plantings of Grüner Veltliner in the Central coast back in 2011. We started with the idea of just making a barrel and the idea literally became Solminer. Our Santa Ynez blend has a great mix of acidity from the cooler climate site Spear Vineyard in Santa Rita hills while the Coquelicot grapes add some wonderful depth and fruit.
Grün means green and this color is definitely noticable in the glass. Aromas of green apple, white pepper, melon and slight hints of lychee lingers on your palate. Pear and citrus notes follow with a zesty lime twist as a finish.
Grüner is indeed food friendly; pairing well with fish, summer soups, spring salads and vegetables including hard to match items like asparagus. We especially love it with a traditional chicken, pork or veal schnitzel!
