2016 Grüner Veltliner
Santa Ynez Valley
We are extremely passionate about Grüner Veltliner (pronounced Groo-ner Vet-leener). This refreshing dry white from Austria is showing up more and more on American wine lists and is revered by sommeliers due to its food friendly nature. We dedicate this wine to our Austrian and American heritage and are proud to be one of a handful of domestic producers of this lovely varietal in California.
The fruit is 25% Estate from our deLanda Vineyard and 75% from a new Santa Rita Hills Spear Vineyard. One acre of our blessed Grüner now resides at Spear and we are finding it to be a wonderful site. The vines native to Austria have taken incredibly well to our soils and climate in this particular California region.
The most popular grape in Austria, Grüner Veltliner is a great alternative to Chardonnay, Viognier or Sauvignon Blanc. It is well balanced and versatile, and while it pairs perfectly with some pork or chicken schnitzel it also compliments most spring and summer vegetable dishes such as pasta primavera. It works as a great starter with appetizers, soups and salads as well.
