2013 "Vollmond" Syrah
Organically grown Syrah picked from the select "Old Block" and upper slope of our property is co-fermented with a bit of our estate Blaufränkisch to create "Vollmond" (meaning "Full Moon") and aged 18 months in French oak. Completely unfined and unfiltered, this is the purest expression of our vineyard. The Syrah takes the mainstage with just a hint of appearance from our Austrian inspired red grape, Blaufränkisch.
A recent review from Vinous gives a great description:
"A host of pungent, dark, Los Olivos-inflected notes open up. Dark cherry, game, sage, black olives and black pepper abound. Brawny and a touch rustic, the 2013 is a hearty wine for the dinner table. There is no shortage of character, that much is evident." -- Antonio Galloni editor Vinous.
A little smoky yet restrained with great fruit and acidity, this wine pairs well with braised lamb, lasagna bolognese, and baby back ribs.
